Students at Pitt for STEM

Five students from the Honors Scientific Investigations course (soon to be Honors STEM-Exploration) spent a day at the University of Pittsburgh for a STEM experience. While at the university, they collected a sample of their own cells, extracted the DNA, multiplied portions of the DNA through a polymerase chain reaction, and then analyzed the results through gel electrophoresis. The procedure performed by the students is one used in many biology research labs and is also utilized to analyze crime scene DNA by police and the FBI.
