This year, schools nominated 129 students. Of that number, 44 received the highest award, Certificates of Recognition, and 85 received Certificates of Participation. Each student submitted two pieces of writing, a response to a prompt and a poem. Two independent judges evaluated each submission holistically on content, purpose, audience, tone, word choice, organization, development, and style.
Many thanks to the Mellon English Department for their time and efforts with judging the initial pieces and helping our writers every day!
