Odyssey is designed to encourage non-conventional approaches to problem solving. As a result, students can gain tremendous experience exploring new ground. This year, the Odyssey team — Natalie, Melody, Leah, Ruby, and Nikki (along with rising 6th grader Chloe McGee) — attacked problems in engineering and simple machines; electronics and circuitry; musical theory and the physics of sound; metal and wood work; geometry; and writing, humor, stagecraft, and the creation of a successful dramatic story as they responded to a general prompt.
Odyssey of the Mind World Finals

World Finals itself was a whirlwind, and the Mellon team faced challengers from all over the world, many of whom participate in Odyssey as part of a gifted curriculum or because they were selected from a large field of candidates. The Mellon girls ended up twelfth in the world! Congratulations!
