On December 6, seventy eighth graders were nominated to participate in NCTE's Promising Young Writers Program. They received a prompt and had two class periods to begin to work on it. Then, they had one week to revise and turn in a final draft. Fifty-two students completed the writing and turned in a copy for evaluation. We are especially proud of them for their motivation and effort in seeing this opportunity to completion. Their names are listed in the literary magazine. Of the fifty-two student pieces, three nominees were chosen to represent our school in the national competition. Their papers, along with a sample of their best writing, were sent for evaluation. With a challenging prompt, they composed insightful, creative pieces full of style and voice.
Our nominees were Rafe Silver, Ella Sperry, and Kaloyan Stefanov. Congratulations!
Two of our three nominees have been named as national winners! This year, 130 students nationwide were nominated as finalists. Only 45 of them were chosen as outstanding writers and received certificates of recognition. Four came from Pennsylvania, and two came from JMS!
Congratulations Rafe Silver and Ella Sperry for receiving Certificates of Recognition in the Promising Young Writers Program!
