After completing a research project focused on homelessness, a group of WES Fifth Grade Students were so deeply affected by what they learned that they decided they wanted to find a way to provide some comfort to children who are homeless. The students challenged themselves: "How can we bring about some change and provide comfort to children who are homeless?" They asked: "What brings us comfort when we are upset or going through a hard time?" The answers to those questions guided the students to create a plan that would help make change in the lives of children who are homeless. They asked the WES Community by contributing to their plan for change in two ways: by donating a new stuffed animal and used book or by participating in the Change-for-Change donation drive. The appeal was a success. The students collected $1600 to purchase new blankets. The blankets, stuffed animals and books were assembled into kits by the students and donated to local homeless shelters.
