We are proud to announce that Everitt Meer, a Mt. Lebanon High School sophomore, has been selected as a Distinguished Finalist in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards. This national program that honors middle level and high school students for outstanding volunteer service is sponsored by Prudential Financial, in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

In conjunction with the Prudential Spirit of Community Award, Everitt was also recognized with the President's Volunteer Service Award. The award recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country. This award includes a certificate and letter from the President of the United States.

Everitt was recognized for starting the "Treasure Our Veterans" project, which has raised enough money to host more than 25 veterans breakfast clubs - community breakfast events focused on celebrating veterans and sharing their stories. Everitt's volunteer efforts for the project include designing and selling T-shirts and lapel pins, creating informational flyers, giving speeches and designing thank-you cards for participating veterans.

Thousands of young people across the country were considered for 2019 Spirit of Community Awards. From all of these, only 9 were selected from Pennsylvania.

Everitt will be honored at March 18 School Board meeting where a representative of Prudential will present him with an engraved Prudential Spirit of Community bronze medallion in recognition of his outstanding community service.
