No. 201 Private Guitar Lessons (HS Room D203)

Tuesdays, April 16th (6-weeks)

Have you ever considered learning the guitar? Now is the time to get a feel for this instrument in this 6-week course. These six 45 minute sessions will provide you with some basic theory as you learn to play 2- 3 songs! The Office of Continuing Education will contact you one week prior to the beginning of the class to arrange your personal lesson time Tuesday evenings. About the instructor: Bob Biskup has taught piano and guitar lessons privately and publicly in Pittsburgh Schools for over 20 years. He is a director at his local church choir as well as performs there.

No. 401 DRAWING COMIC BOOK CHARACTERS (HS RM C-314)

Thursdays, April 25th

INSTRUCTOR: Howard Bender

Learn to make your own comic book from cover to finish using dynamic drawing and storytelling! Create your own superheroes, heroines and villains with their own fantastic worlds and stories! Learn the fundamentals of human form and anatomy, how to create stunning sequential and compelling panel layouts using perspective and foreshortening techniques that make your characters pop off of the page! Students will draw and put together their own 8 page comic book with cover and 7 page story. Materials needed: number 2 pencils, separate eraser, 9” X 12” drawing pad, colored pencils and ruler and your imagination.

Howard Bender a professional illustrator – has drawn many cartoons and illustrations for newspapers, children’s books and many comic books for DC Comics, Marvel, Disney and others. Characters and titles include Superman, Spider-Man, The Legion of Super-Heroes, Ghostbusters, Micronauts, Archie and Richie Rich. Mr. Bender has also been involved in creating and drawing his own original characters and titles, Mr. Fixitt, Billy & Pop and the Sherlock Holmes Minute Mysteries. Memberships: The National Cartoonists Society, Pittsburgh Society of Illustrators, The International Society of Caricaturist Artists


No. 301 DRAWING FOR THE BEGINNING ARTIST (HS RM C-314)

Wednesdays, April 24th

INSTRUCTOR: Howard Bender

Unleash your creativity and discover your fundamental drawing skills, abilities, and personal modes of expression with the use of basic drawing. Work in charcoal, pencil, ink, wash, and other materials learning to use line, value, gesture, and perspective. Students will work with a variety of subjects, including the figure, still life, and landscape and explore patterns, shapes and color. Learning a strong foundation in drawing will support work in all of the visual arts.
