Mt. Lebanon has received a Safe Communities America designation from the National Safety Council, placing it among an elite number of United States cities dedicated to preventing injury and death. The Mt. Lebanon School District is proud to have been a member of the founding coalition that contributed to the application. The District joined the Mt. Lebanon Police Department, the Mt. Lebanon Fire Department, Mt. Lebanon Public Information Office, Mt. Lebanon Public Works, Medical Rescue Team South Authority, St. Clair Hospital, Outreach Teen & Family Services, and FirstGroup (First Student's parent company). The District's ALICE program and the partnership we have with the MLPD and MLFD to teach students safe walking and fire safety programs were highlighted in the application.
"The Mt. Lebanon School District was honored to join our community partners as a member of this important coalition which resulted in a national accreditation from the National Safety Council," said Dr. Tim Steinhauer.
Mt. Lebanon is one of only 30 communities in the country with this accreditation. The application, which took more than a year and a half to prepare, was underwritten by First Student Transportation.
