Please join us for the first Mellon and Jefferson Empty Bowl Fundraiser to benefit the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank on March 8, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Jefferson Middle School Cafeteria. Students from Mellon and Jefferson's BIT, Art, FCS, Orchestra, and Choral Enrichment classes have joined forces to help combat hunger in Western Pennsylvania. Students from both Mellon and Jefferson's BIT, art, FCS, orchestra, and Choral Enrichment classes have joined forces to help combat hunger in Western Pennsylvania.
For a $10 donation, you will receive a modest dinner of soup, bread, and water, much like a meal someone in need would be served at a soup kitchen. Also included is a chance to win a beautifully crafted ceramic bowl made by our Art Enrichment students. During the evening you will be entertained by Mellon's orchestra and chorus. There will also be children's activities and games.
As part of the event, you are invited to join Elizabeth Rychcik from Outreach Teen and Family Services as she presents "Fostering Empathy in a 'Selfie' World". Together we will uncover why nurturing empathy in our children isn't optional but essential. Practical strategies for combating this generation's self-absorption epidemic will also be addressed along with game changing tips for dealing with technology addiction.
All proceeds from the evening will be donated to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
We would also like to thank our generous donations from the following local businesses: Bonefish Grill, Houlihan's, Redwood Cafe, Rania's Catering, Giant Eagle Market District, TGI Friday's, and Eat 'N Park Restaurant.
Tickets are $10/per person and may be purchased in the BIT room from Mrs. Kassup. Checks should be made payable to MTLSD.
Please contact Mrs. Gwen Kassep (firstname.lastname@example.org)with any questions.
We hope you can join us for this very special event.
