MTLSD Awarded School Safety Grant-One of the Largest in the Region
Posted 05/31/2019 12:47PM

This month Governor Tom Wolf announced the grant recipients for the School Safety and Security Grant Program. We were very pleased to learn that we will receive $476,660.00 over two years―the second largest award in our region for a broad range of training, equipment, and infrastructure enhancements.

The District's grant proposal was based on the Administration and School Board's emphasis and concern for student mental health and well-being, and the building level safety and security assessments that were completed in partnership with the Mt. Lebanon Police Department.

The grant includes funding for trauma-informed counseling and training, and an additional 136 cameras and the hardware to support them. It also includes an expansion of our communication capacity.

This grant provides an additional $476,000 to the District's effort to address both the mental health and well-being of our students and staff and the significant capital safety and security improvements occurring throughout our buildings.

Special thanks go to Dr. Marybeth Irwin and Dr. Ron Davis for writing such a successful grant, and to Mr. Rick Marciniak and the Mt. Lebanon Police Department for their contributions to this meaningful and important school safety grant.
