Representative Conor Lamb (PA-17) announced Mt. Lebanon High School student Alayna Hollist as the winner of the 2019 Congressional Art Competition for Pennsylvania's 17th District for her colored pencil piece "The Candy Shop." Hollist, a junior, was declared the winner during a reception hosted by Lamb at Chatham University in May.

Lamb received 52 pieces of art for the contest, including paintings, photographs, drawings, mixed media and stained glass from more than 40 students from schools across PA-17.

"This competition is a great opportunity to display the significant artistic talent we have here in southwestern Pennsylvania to the nation, and I look forward to having Alayna's artwork on display every day when I walk to the Capitol to vote," said Lamb. "I am thankful to all of the gifted students in our district for the artwork they submitted; it was an amazing demonstration of their hard work and talent."

A panel of judges, including local artists and educators, selected Hollist's "The Candy Shop," which will be hung in the U.S. Capitol beginning in June along with the winning entries from other congressional districts nationwide. Additionally, the panel selected the following second, third and fourth and place-winning entries that will be displayed for one year in Lamb's Washington, D.C., Allegheny County and Beaver County offices respectively:

2nd Place: Tenaeja Sheffey (Riverview Jr. Sr. High School) "Untitled"

3rd Place: Skye Coto (Penn Hills High School) "A Journey to the Urban Rain Forest"

4th Place: Natalie Callahan (Mt. Lebanon High School) "Getting Ready"
